Tax Incentives for Buying Geothermal

The U.S. Department of Energy is very much interested in reducing the country’s overall electricity consumption in an effort to lower nationwide energy costs. There are also numerous lobbying groups and environmental concerns who regularly petition the U.S. Congress to do something about the country’s massive carbon footprint and resultant pollution. In recent years, these efforts have resulted in programs and laws to provide incentives for energy-efficient options like EnergyStar certified appliances and HVAC systems such as geothermal heat pumps.

Anything EnergyStar certified can qualify for a government rebate. Thanks to their amazing energy efficiencies, most all geothermal heat pump systems are EnergyStar qualified. That means you can get a rebate back from the U.S. government just for buying and installing a geothermal heat pump unit. You might also get particularly lucrative savings depending upon wear you live, since there are also individual EnergyStar state programs approved by the Department of Energy. Look up your local state and see how much a geothermal heat pump will benefit you.

Then there are specific state and municipal regulations that can save you money over time with an energy-efficient system. For example, the state of California has numerous programs to promote energy-efficiency and geothermal heat pumps can benefit from some of those. Within the state of California, the city of San Francisco has some of its own benefits program which can stack with state and then Federal incentives. San Francisco, of course, is just one example and numerous local governments offer tax incentives or rebate programs of some kind to persuade you to upgrade to an energy-efficient air comfort system like a geothermal heat pump
